William
Threet Poe
1817-1884
The original
was composed of charcoal on paper board 16 x 20 inches. It was displayed in an
oak frame with painted plaster molding. In the early 1990s the paper board
crumbled into dust. Luckily, professional negatives were made in 1986. This
digital image is a scan of a print from the 1986 negative that was restored to
remove blemishes.
The original of this image was hanging in the bedroom in Benton, Arkansas of Sarah Alma Poe Walton (1883-1969), daughter of William Elkin Poe, son of William Threet Poe. Sometime in the 1940s, Samuel Arthur Poe, Alma’s brother, took possession of this and another picture. Later, the pictures were stored under the house. Termites ate into the frames and the cardboard deteriorated.
