Hutchens (Hutchins, Hutchings) and Poe connections

One of my great-grandmothers, Nancy Adaline Hogue married Franklin Pierce Davis, son of J. M. Davis and Sarah Bills. Sarah Bills is from the Bills family that settled in Tennessee and has roots in Deep River, North Carolina where the Simon Poe family settled. Always it is interesting how far back the connections exist between families as they migrated west.

As indicated in the North Carolina records, Sarah Hutchens married a Poe and is mentioned in the will of John Hutchens, Sr in 1789. As seen below in data on ancestry.com, William Bills married Susannah Hutchins. This Bills family moved to Maury and Bedford Counties in Tennessee, and neighboring Tippah and Pontotoc Counties in Mississippi. Here they evidently met the Davis family.

From: Stanley Family of Guilford County, NC

James Standley was born in 1688 in New Kent Co.,Va and baptized in Old Peters Church on April 15, 1688. James died in Hanover Co.,Va. on 7 Aug 1754; he was 66. James Standley's son, James Stanley, was born about 1708 in Henrico, Virginia. On 3 May 1728 James Stanley married Catherine Hutchins in the Friends Meeting, Henrico, VA. Catherine died in New Garden (Quaker), Guilford, NC on 20 Dec 1766; she was 58. Catheine was the daughter of Nicholas Hutchins & Mary Watkins. James and Catherine Stanley divorced.

Information on Sarah E. Bills

BURIED IN ROSELAWN CEMETERY WITH OTHER BILLS, HOLIMAN AND HOGUE FAMILY MEMBERS

Likely related to the Bills of Tippah and Potontoc Counties, MS and Maury and Bedford Counties, Tennessee. My guess is that she is the daughter of John Bills. John Bills is listed in the 1840 Pontotoc, MS census with males: 1 - un/5, 1 - 15/20, 1 - 20/30, 1 - 40/50 and females: 1 - und/5, 1 - 10/15 (I make this Sarah E. Bills b.1828), 1 - 15/20, 1 - 40/50. Slaves females: 2 - und/5, 1 - 10/24

John Bills' father likely is one of the sons of Daniel Bills (1740-1829)and Deborah Denmon, probably Gershom (Garshom) Bills b. 10/17/1767.  A GarshomBills (probably Gershom Jr.) appears in the Tippah County, MS census aged 60 in 1860. John Bills is nearby, aged 69. A Gersham Bills appears in the Surry Co.NC in 1810. A Gashum Bills appears in the 1830 Bedford Co., TN census. The 1860 Tippah County, MS lists Garshum Bills aged 60, born in NC with Elfainer A. Bills aged 60, born in KY.
