Samuel Poe serves as witness for Abijah Elmore against Richard Ward in 1756. In
1793, a Samuel Poe serves as witness to will of Robert B. Ward. The Ward
family, thus, serves to tie Samuel Poe and Robert Poe together in the
historical records. The relationship between the families is unknown.

One suspects that Elizabeth Poe is Robert's wife as they seem to have appeared
together for one day.

Pay Rolls and Muster Rolls of Soldiers who
served during the War of 1812 were published in 1851 but they are indexed only
by the name of the captain of each company and many of these lists are not
identified as to county. The following Amelia lists are taken from Pay
Roll of Militia Entitled to Land Bounty Under Act of Congress of
Sept. 28, 1850,
printed in Richmond, VA 1851. Some of the other lists may pertain to Amelia,
but are not readily identifiable.
