The last will and testament of Richard Bradford was presented in court by William Bowler and proved by Thos. Mason, Henry Farley, and William Ragsdale, witnesses thereto. Racheal Bradford, executrix in the will named, by a note from under her hand relinquished her right of executorship and Stephen Poe, executor, relinquished in open court. On William Bowler's motion, administration of the estate with the will annexed is granted him.

It's ordered William Bowler, administrator etc., pay Henry Farley . . . Thomas Mason  . . . William Ragsdale [each] 280 pounds of tobacco for one day's attendance and coming and going once eighty five miles to prove the will of Richard Bradford.

BRADFORD FAMILY of Fauquier Co., VA
      It is thought that this John was 2nd or 3rd generation in America. Although the family was generally described as planters, some of their descendants were pioneer publishers. John (2b) and brother Fielding (2J) journeyed from Lexington, KY to Philadelphia, PA and purchased a small printing press. First issue of Kentucky Gazette was published Aug. 11, 1787; varied publications came from this press for years. Benjamin (2bii) founded the Tennessee Gazette & Clarion in Nashville, TN. James M. (2bvii) founded first newspaper in St. Francisville, LA.

     HENRY BRADFORD, b. 12 Mar 1758 in Fauquier Co. was apprenticed to a tailor, he quit to join the American army during the Revolution and rose to the rank of Sergeant. After the Revolution he moved to Sumner Co. TN and became a major in the Militia. There is a letter available at the Library of VA from Henry to Daniel Smith in Knoxville dated 12 May 1793. It is generally a description of Indian attacks, home news, and Local politics.
     
      7. SARAH, b 1727 in Prince William County, Virginia, died July 28, 1783 in Rowan, North Carolina, .married (1) Wlliam Taylor, born Bet. 1720 - 1730 in Wicomico Parish, Northumberland, Virginia, died abt 1760 - 1768 in Prince William County, Virginia. and m. (2) Bennett Rose.

     9. JOSEPH BENNETT , b. 1738 d. 1828 Madison Co VA m. 1. Judith George 2. Susanna Bush 3. Margaret White. 1790 NC CENSUS: Listed w 3 males over 16, 2 males under 16, 4 females, 1 slave. Name above is Elisha__ Kerry and below William Carter. BURKE County is located in Western NC at the foot of the Blueridge. Actually just EAST of YANCEY CO. whose Bradfords have hit a wall on ancestors and the Genetic Signature of the Yancey Co Bradfords doesn't seem to match other participants.
     JOSEPH BENNET BRADFORD: (VA) fought at Battle of Guilford Court Hs. under Gen. Sumter as an orderly. The General presented him with a mahognay clothes brush (now in possession of Jn. W. Br., White Hall (Indiana) inscribed "Present from Gen. Sumter to Bennet Bradford, 1781"; b. 1738 Fauquier, Va.; d. 1826 Burke Co., N. C.
