Best evidence suggests the following relationships

Thomas Poe b: 1781 had the following children:

        R. H. (Razza) Poe        b 1812

        L. S. (Lewis S.) Poe    b 1808

        James H. Poe              b 1818

In 1859 R.H. Poe is the administrator of James Poe, dec'd, estate.

In probate court he is listed as "petitioner, Razy H Poe, administrator of James Poe deceased".

L.S. Poe (aka Lewis S Poe) is the guardian of

Thomas B Poe,

Mary Poe,

Sarah F Poe,

Rhoda Poe and

Eliza Poe

who are the children and only heirs of the deceased.

The widow of James Poe is listed as Caroline F. Poe.

This is likely the couple James Poe and F.C. McCay who were married 6 Sep 1858 in White County, Arkansas.

Apparently the children were from a James' prior marriage.

Caroline next married Perry A. McDaniel in White county on 19 Aug 1860.

I believe that the James referred to in the above probate records is the brother of R.H. Poe and that L.S. Poe is the other brother.

All 3 brothers are found in Red River Twnshp, White County, Arkansas

James Poe married Elizabeth Holley (b. c. 1776) (Betty)

(R.H.) Razza H. Poe married Nancy L. Holley.    We have brothers marrying sisters.

Monica Caroline Poe / Fears (she says maternal grandmother was Betty Edwards. Says. She says that Betty married Dick Holly. They had children  David, and one Morgan.   One of the girls was named Melviney, usually called Viney.   Those who survived were named Katie Holley, William Edwards Holley, Nancy L Holly (Holley).  (NOTE: Nancy Married Rasy H. Poe b 1811)    Hearing grandma speak of but one brother. His name was William, and she called him Brother Billy. Brother William wrote this letter he was in Georgia visiting some of his children.   His home was in one of the Carolina’s, My grandfather Holley was confined to his bed for ten years, and afterwards went on crutches.   He died in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the house of my parents in the spring of 1853; and my grandmother Holley died at West Point, White County, Arkansas in December, 1861 at my father’s house.   My father and mother moved from Tuscaloosa, Alabama to West Point, Arkansas in the year 1856.   My mother was a daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Holley and was the Nancy L. Holley referred to above as one of  their children.

My mother married R. H. Poe in the year 1832 in Tuscaloosa County Alabama, and there

were born to them the following named children:

William T. Poe,  (Note: William Thomas Poe 1833 – 1886 married Lelia A. Brown 1842-1880.

                                              Children Helen Nancy Brown 4 February 1866 – 13 September 1932; Ruby Poe d. 10 November 1891)

M.C. Poe (Or Kate),  (Note: Monica Catharine Poe married Richard S. Fears on 17 November 1852)

Elijah Holley Poe,

James A. Poe,

Richard R. Poe,

Elizabeth Poe,

Rhoda Poe, and

Nanny Gill Poe.

Nancy L. Poe, my mother, was born Dec. 22nd, 1811, died near West Point, Arkansas January

1st, 1867. My father, R. H. Poe, died April 1875.

William T. Poe (son of R. H. And Nancy L. Poe) died April 7, 1885 and left surviving

him as his heirs-at-law, John A. Poe, Helen N. Poe  (Now Helen N. Tompkins), Minnie

L. (Now Minnie L. Brewer), Annie K. And Ruby.   Ruby died at the age of twelve years

on November 10th, 1892.

M.C. Poe is myself who  married Richard S. Fears in Alabama at Tuscaloosa November

18th, 1852.

Elijah Holley Poe is still living.

James A. Poe died in Texas a few years since.   He left six children and a widow.

Dick, Emma, Thomas, Willie Jo, Kate and Maggery. His widow is now dead.   His children,

when last heard from, were living at Cold Springs, Texas.

Richard R. Poe is still living.

Elizabeth Poe married Rufus Rudisill and died in April 1878; she has three children

living; Clair, Zada and Lillian.

Rhoda A. Poe is still living.

Searcy's Home Guard Minute Men

The Searcy Home Guard Minute Men was organized May 30, 1861. These men were destined
to take part in the Battle of Whitney's Lane just one year from the time of its
formation, May 1862. It was composed of from 10 to 20 men from each township who
would be ready at any time to protect this area. From each township a commander
was chosen.

JUDGE LEWIS S. POE gave orders that script be issued for all accounts. This was
done through the General Commander's office. There was a tax of one sixteenth of
one per cent levied on all property. This money was to go to the military with one
thousand dollars to the families of the volunteers.

My 2ndgreatgrandfather, Capt. James A. Poe was in the Civil War (Company A, Gause's
Ark. Regiment) and 3rd greatgrandfather Capt. R.H. Poe (Quartermaster, Glenn's Regiment,
Ark. Inf.). His other son Richard Razy Poe was a 2nd Lieutenant in the 32nd or 38th
Ark Inf.

They all moved from Alabama in abt 1855 and resided in the area until after 1870.
RH Poe was allowed to resign his commission and leave the army in 1863 because he
operated the only grist mill in White Co., and the citizens petitioned the army
to discharge him so he could work it.   I have a copy of  that petition with about
50 signatures of local residents of the area at that time, if you're interested.

as wounded on July 14,1863 so maybe Poe was promoted.  Does your muster list this?
A  R.H. Poe resigned as Quartermaster on June 9,1863 most likely the same person.
