He was born July 16, 1886 in Illiopolis, Sangamon, Illinois132,133, and died February 15, 1972 in Streator, La Salle, Ilinois134,135. Notes for RUTH ESTELLA POE: Judy Anne Morgan Mahon: Grandma Morstatter was always an individualist. Very unpredictable. I think she led Grandpa a merry chase. She wasn't much of a housekeeper but she could throw anything together and make it edible. They moved alot and didn't carry much of the world's goods with them. Mom said that G'pa would bring it home and G'ma woudl throw it out. G'ma loved to play bingo. When she lived with my folks at the end of her life, mom had quite a time with her over checks. When G'ma was low on funds she'd write a check...not realizing there would be a reckoning day. G'ma could crochet beautifully. I still have the christening dress she made for me. Hickory St., according to Eleanor Lovilla Morstatter Morgan's birth certificate. Grandpa Morstatter had an old country charm. I can remember him with the prettiest white hair and a bit of a stoop. One summer when I was 16 I worked with Grandma out at the Pea Shack....DelMonte's way of feeding the field workers. That was quite a summer. Grandpa tried to teach me to drive. I remember not making a corner back in the fields and getting in a pretty good little ditch. All Grandpa said was, "Well, I think we'll have to back up a little and try again." Grandpa was a wonderful Christian man and to hear him pray was like a it of heaven on earth. He and G'ma lived in some peculiar places. I remember the basement they lived in for a while, not sure where it was. He used to tell moma, "Let them eat their dessert first; their tummies are so small." Dark jet black hair and a round smiling face. I remember when he took all of us out on his plantoon boat one summer. I think it was in Peoria. What a wonderful day of swimming, fishing and visiting. Uncle Bill and Aunt Fran were my mom and dad's favorite traveling partners in their later years. They made several trips together and always had a ball being together. In later years Uncle Bill had to be on oxygen. They would visit Mom and Dad and Uncle Bill would always proclaim, "Fish and visitors go bad after three days." Rather slight and swarthy. He lived with us some when we were kids. He wasn't supposed to drink while he was living at our house, but I remember one spring, when we'd had a lot of rain, the cans floating out from under the drain under the driveway. He was a sweet man and always was good to us kids. He helped with dishes and yard work and was always willing to watch TV. In his later years he suffered terribly from arthritis. His hands were very crippled and distended, but Uncle Leroy loved to visit and his mind stayed sharp. More About DELBERT LEROY MORSTATTER: Burial: Mt. Very dark brown hair and a fair complexion and a marvelous giggle. She was a wonderful Christian woman and a hard worker. She held several very responsible jobs in Peoria. Her last years were spent as the manager of the large mission in Peoria. Notes for LOVILLA ELEANOR MORSTATTER: How did Eleanor and Alex meet: Eleanor worked at Staley's in Decatur collecting samples for the lab. One night after work she went to "Snozzles", a local bar, to cash her check. She asked some of the guys she knew if they could give her a ride home. Well, they couldn't, but their friend "Al" could. Alex took her home and the next day instead of putting his samples outside the door, he was waiting for Eleanor and offered her coffee!! Forever afterward when they'd have a misunderstanding, a sure sign of making up was, "Hon, would you like some coffee?" Judy Anne Morgan Mahon: Mama was a very special lady. She wasn't very big. Probably only about 5'2", a full head of brown hair that never did go grey. In adulthood she carried some extra pounds but she was always proud of her tiny waist. She was always ready to help anybody and never said a bad word about anyone that I can remember. She taught us many things but I guess the greatest was to love Jesus and others. She didn't think she was very talented and was constantly degrading herself, but she could do most anything she put her mind to. She sewed for us girls while we were growing up. She always home canned as much as possible. She loved to paint and probably painted most of the houses we lived in at least once!! One thing that is hard to realize is that she never knew how to drive until she was she was 25 years old. Daddy never had patience to teach her so one day her friend in the old project, Cleo Prater, told mama she'd teach her to drive and she did. And once mama hit the road.... She took loads of kids to church and church camp first in our vehicles and then in church buses....and then she started driving a school bus. She influenced alot of families along the way. She had served her church in every way she knew how....bringing people, taking people home for dinner, putting up preachers and missionaries, tithing and giving offerings, teaching children in Sunday school and children's church. I had always admired my mom, but never more than when she moved to Franklin, TN, to live by us. She was only there two years but she made so many friends and influenced so many lives. She was living in a run down trailer park where anyone else would've been leary of their neighbors....Mom went and collected day old bread, etc. to distribute and she started a Bible Club for the children. She was active in the senior adult activities at church and in the community. She constantly visited the home bound and those in nursing homes. She loved the unlovable. Well, I could go on and on. When she died the funeral was in Mississippi, but there werr memorial services for her in Tennessee, Illinois and Michigan. Quite a lady, my mom. More About LOVILLA ELEANOR MORSTATTER: Burial: Mc Laurin Cemetery, Forrest, Mississippi Occupation: School bus driver Notes for ISAAC ALEXANDER MORGAN: Arlene Morgan Lee: When Alex was real little all we had to do was give him his "hammie" and a nail and he was happy. After he'd just started school, we lived in an old house and there was a high stoop off the back. Alex wanted to stay home one day, said he didn't feel well. When Mom and Dad got home from town, Alex had built his mama steps!" Judy Anne Morgan Mahon: I can remember Daddy playing his guitar by the hour, working on his old radios in the garage, bringing home broken toys from Mohawks to fix for children (sometimes US!!) for Christmas, being in the plays at Ball Road Tabernacle, making wagons and carts and doll furniture to order, singing in the quartet at church, and so much more. When he got his medical retirement and moved to Mississippi I never dreamed that we'd be his next door neighbors...but it was the nicest thing that Leonard Mahon ever did for me and his girls. The girls were at G'ma and G'pa's anytime day or night. G'pa would always take them fishing in the pond or help on projects, from birdhouses to tree houses. He built a little bus waiting station for them down at the road. When the girls were in school, I'd just about always stop in for a cup or two of coffee in the morning before getting the day started. He helped me with many many school and church projects. When we moved to Tennessee I tried to get them to move up there, too. And, Daddy just said, "Are you crazy?? I don't ever want to be your next door neighbor again....you make me work too hard!" (I think that was PARTLY in JEST!!) Daddy could do just about anything he put his mind to...painting scenery, making doghouses, making windchimes, there was just no end to it all. He often said after he retired that he didn't know how he ever had time to work!! One of the things he enjoyed in retirement was his flowers. They had a hugh covered carport-porch and it was always lined with green things. He even made a sun porch on the front of the house for the plants in winter. He remembered lots of things that he'd learned way back in high school at Forrest County Agricultural High in Brooklyn, Mississippi. Physically, he was tallish, beautiful blue eyes, dark, almost black hair, and though a big man, tended toward being lean. When I was real little Daddy made me a playhouse in our backyard in Mississippi. He made a couch and a table and chairs...each chair made for a specific doll or animal, so they were all equal at the table.
