I've had these records several years. I had gone through and copied each date, person and happening and I've gone back
the last year and discovered many of my relatives were there!! I thought these people were closer to the Concord Community
than they were the New Lexington Community.

My husband, a friend of ours and I went to some OLD cemeteries last week. We were in the OLD Salem cemtery and Gay
showed us the one that she calls her sweetheart. She said that she placed flowers on his grave last Christmas and told him to
rest in peace. I told her who he was, Dr. William BAKER, and I looked up more census records on him. He lived in the household
of Bradford WILLINGHAM and later married Bradford's daughter. He became a doctor at a very young age and the people in the
community loved the family. He was a Mason. He had an extended illness before his early death. Wish I knew what killed him.
I'll enclose a picture of his grave.

After leaving that cemetery, we visited one 'way over in the boondocks, east of old Gorgas school, miles from nowhere. It was the
WHITSON Cemetery and there were only white marble markers in it! HOW did they transport the larger markers! When we
started to leave, we spotted a moutain lion in the road! We didn't bother him! ha He was big and beautiful!

Gotta go and get "stuff" ready for the football crowd. Keep your fingers crossed for a win for U of A!! It's very cold and windy here.
Glad we're indoors watching on TV!

Is that the Thomas Poe  married  to Mary (people  say Mary Hampton, but no proof). It is presumed he is a son of  the "major" James Poe (but on slight evidence) -- then again, that my John Poe was a son of James is based on slight evidence. My John Poe had a son Thomas Poe (b. 1819) who was in Fayette Co. By 1834, that could be him.

with other POEs, HOPSONs and CATES/KEATS. Still searching for a papa for my John!!
Thanks!!

I was recently contacted by Dayton Poe, a descendant of Thomas Jefferson Poe, son of Nathaniel Poe (born 1813/16) who lived in Carroll County and Choctaw County, Mississippi. I have compiled what I could find about Nathaniel Poe on this web page.

http://poefamilyresearch.net/MS/Studies/NathanielPoe.htm

If anyone can add more information about this line, please let me know.

--------------------

Most likely, Nathaniel Poe is a son of Stephen Poe b. 1797 who died in Choctaw County, MS in 1871. Stephen lived in Fayette County, Alabama at the same time as George Poe, who likely was his father. This line appears to trace, through Tennessee, back to Caswell County, NC, where we find George Poe with an older, Jonathan Poe, who could have been George's father. Jonathan Poe is a name that earlier appears in the records of Culpeper County, VA where we find William Poe (wife Lydia) having settled by 1737. William Poe was in Essex / Caroline County, VA before that.
