Gilbert Poe in the Indian Territory Census of 1900 must be the same Gilbert Poe in Pulaski Co, AR in 1880 and listed in the will of John Poe in 1859. The age of 35 in 1880 fits the age of 55 for the Indian Territory Gilbert Poe in 1900. And, we see that wife Caroline and son Lewis (age 8 in 1880) is next in the 1900 census aged 27.

Another former slave I want to track is Robert Poe. He was 42 in 1870. He and wife were born in North Carolina. In the 1870 census we see that most children were "at school". Robert stayed nearby the old Poe farm in Grant (Saline) County, Arkansas, where he had been a slave, identified in the will of John Poe.

Gilbert is listed as a farmer in Indian Territory and his son is a laborer. Son Lewis is a day laborer -- probably on his father's or nearby farms.

OBITUARY

MRS. AUSTRALIA HUNGARY PAICELY HAYNES, the daughter of Roland R. and VIOLA POE PAICELY, was born March 28, 1921 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

She was a product of the Indianapolis Public School System. She attended the Philander Smith College for one year after graduating from Crispus Attucks High School.

In 1981, she became an active member of Broadway United Methodist Church. She dearly loved her church activiities, which included being a member of the Sunday School, the Senior Choir and she was an accomplished organist and pianist. MRS. HAYES enjoyed classical music. Choruses and Anthems were also her favorites. She was a member of the Toast Mistress Club.

AUSTRALIA was the organist for Little Bethel Baptist Church for thirty-three years (1961-1994) in additional to being active at Broadway United Methodist Church.

MRS. HAYES retired from the Military Pay Division at the United States Army Finance and accounting Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison after twenty-nine years in 1981.

MRS. AUSTRALIA HUNGARY PAICELY HAYES departed this earthly life on February 9, 2004. her parents, her husband, Willie E. Hayes, one son, Chappel Roland Hayes, one brother, David Randolph Paicely and one sister, Lavonia Paicely Drew all preceded her in death.

MRS. HAYES's immediate survivors include two sons, Sidney Edgar Hayes and Wiley Augustus Hayes; two granddaughters, Kimberly Haskins and Sele Nadel-Hayes; and one geat granddaughter, Alexandria Whatley.

She is also survived by two brothers, Clifford Morris Paicely and Sydney louis Paicely; two sisters, Sharon veronica Paicely Robinson and Furniss "Fern" S. Paicely and a daughter-in-law, Nancy Nadel Hayes. She will be missed by a host of nephews, nieces and many friends.
